Stain mattress bed bugs do not go away easily. You might clean every nook and corner of your house with the best cleaning solutions, but their immunity to many pesticides makes them increasingly difficult to tackle. The bed bugs are so tiny that it is nearly impossible to spot them from the naked eye. They are wingless with flat, brown bodies that become reddish after feeding.
You may feel embarrassed to discover bed bugs in your home, but it is not your fault since they can live anywhere, including places outside your home. Now, how to tell if you have bed bugs? You may turn on the lights and see blood stains on the sheets in the morning. These blood stains could result from a crushed bed bug or the bug’s excretions.

HOW TO CLEAN BED BUG BLOOD STAINS STEP BY STEP:
Separate laundry color and fabric wise:
Gather every piece of laundry you think might have come in contact with the bugs and bedding. Separate the items with color and fabric types and place them into plastic bags. Seal them tightly until they are washed.
Treat the stains:
Early-stage bed bug stains on sheets can be treated with regular wash. If the staining is heavy, treat it with an enzyme-based fabric stain remover before washing. Apply the stain remover to the stains, set it for about 10 mins, and then wash it off.
Set washer settings:
Add your regular detergent to the washer’s dispenser or drum. Set the washer to the cycle along with the preferred water temperature.
Load the washer :
Empty one plastic laundry bag into the washer and keep the bag inside the drum. Work carefully to prevent scattering the bugs. Start the washer immediately and throw away the bag in an outside bin.
Use the proper dryer cycle:
While washing, you can get the stains removed and flush away most of the bugs. Quickly transfer the clothes from the washer to the dryer and select the highest possible cycle for the fabric type. Run the dryer for about 30 minutes. Ideally, the heat must exceed 120ºF to kill bugs and eggs. When the cycle finishes, empty the dryer and dispose of the contents in a sealed plastic bag.
Protect clean laundry:
Place freshly washed folded laundry in sealed plastic bags to prevent it from bed bug stains.
- Use a professional dry cleaner for the clothes and bedding that cannot be machine-washed. Seal them in a large plastic bag; it would be better if you warned the cleaner about the bed bugs.
- Inspect the bedding or clothes for stains and pretreat them with an enzyme-based laundry stain remover.

- Strip the bed, remove your sheets and vacuum the mattress. Pay attention to each part of the mattress by lifting it so you can also access the bottom.
- Kill the bugs and eggs through a steam cleaner and vacuum.
- After steaming, use a vacuum with a HEPRA filter to remove any dead bugs. Empty the vacuum or dust container into a plastic bag and dispose of it in a bin.
- Let the fabric air-dry. This way, the air will circulate around the fabric and help release wrinkles as the material dries.
